UMBRA
Design the daylight, not just the façade. With DanpaShade Umbra, you tune glare, heat, and view while giving your building a signature, luminous expression.
What it is
DanpaShade Umbra is a translucent sunshade built with Danpalon® polycarbonate panels and a simple aluminum frame. The Microcell structure diffuses daylight for soft, even illumination while providing high impact resistance and UV stability. Lightweight and durable, Umbra installs quickly on new builds or retrofits and is specified by louver depth, spacing, color, and finish to meet your design intent.
Why project teams choose DanpaShade Umbra systems?
☑ Daylight you can dial in – Balance illuminance and views while cutting solar gain and glare for comfortable interiors.
☑ All-weather, code-ready – High resistance to wind loads, co-extruded UV protection, and Class A (ASTM E84) flame spread performance.
☑ Lightweight, fast to install –Reduce labor and complexity on new builds and retrofits.
☑ Design freedom – Broad color/finish palette, including Softlite matte for glare control, Kinetic and 3DLITE and Low-E options to limit IR heat—without sacrificing visible light.
☑ Sustainable by Design – 100% recyclable panels manufactured under rigorous standards support sustainable building targets.
Panel options
☑ Microcell – Translucent panels with crisp diffusion, high strength and unlimited colors.
☑ 3DLITE – Integrated fixed micro-louvers inside the panel balance daylight from morning to noon to afternoon.
☑ Kinetic (dual-color) – Two hues inside one panel create a dynamic, angle-dependent color shift for façades in motion.
☑ Finish and color library includes neutrals, saturated colors, metallics, and Softlite matte; Low-E and HP (high-protection) surface treatments available.
Performance at a glance
☑ Solar control: Reduce cooling loads and mitigate glare with fin geometry optimized to your latitude, façade orientation, and target SHGC.
☑ Visual comfort: Even, diffuse light at the glazing line; maintains view clarity while softening contrast.
☑ Material durability: Co-extruded UV protection on both sides of the fins; impact-resistant, hail-tough polycarbonate.
☑ Fire & code considerations: Components and assemblies available to support common North American compliance pathways; project-specific engineering available. Listed under ICC ESR-5022
☑ Sustainability: Lightweight system reduces embedded carbon in support framing; daylighting supports energy-efficient design and potential LEED credits.
