Translucent Walls That Perform by Day and Glow by Night

The University of Washington Basketball Practice Facility brings a bold new architectural presence to Husky Athletics—one designed around performance, equity, recruitment, and the daily rhythm of elite student-athletes. Purpose-built for the men’s and women’s basketball programs, the facility creates a high-energy training environment with dedicated practice courts, viewing areas, gathering spaces, and a strong visual connection to the broader athletic campus.

Where performance meets light

Danpal’s translucent wall system gives the project a signature identity. During the day, the polycarbonate wall panels soften natural light, creating a clean, luminous envelope that balances privacy, daylight, and visual comfort. At night, LED backlighting transforms the translucent walls into a glowing architectural surface—turning the facility into a campus landmark and extending the energy of Husky Basketball beyond the court.

For architects, the project demonstrates how a façade can become more than an enclosure. The Danpal system supports a contemporary, high-performance design language with diffused light, durable impact-resistant panels, UV protection, and a lightweight wall assembly suited for demanding athletic and public environments. The result is a building envelope that performs technically while delivering a memorable visual experience: refined in daylight, electric after dark.
